Also available are biographies, reports, pamphlets and additional reference materials. You will need a Broadview Library card number to access these databases.

General Collection:

ArticleFirst: An OCLC index of articles, some full-text, from the contents pages of journals and magazines. For most journals, ArticleFirst provides a list of libraries that have the journal title.
Agriculture Collection: With a strong emphasis on titles covered in the Agricola database, this collection of more than 400 titles is focused on agriculture and its related fields: from practical aspects of farming to cutting edge scientific research in horticulture. Business and Company Resource Center provides access to a wide variety of global business information including competitive intelligence, career and investment opportunities, business rankings, company histories and much more.

Business Source Complete: In addition to the searchable cited references provided for more than 1,300 journals, Business Source Complete contains detailed author profiles for the 40,000 most-cited authors in the database. Journal ranking studies reveal that Business Source Complete is the overwhelmingly superior database for full-text journals in all disciplines of business, including marketing, management, MIS, POM, accounting, finance and economics.

Communications and Mass Media Collection: A specialized collection of more than 250 journals focused on all aspects of the communications field: key subjects covered include advertising and public relations, linguistics, and literature.

Criminal Justice Collection: Whether studying to become a lawyer or law enforcement officer, paralegal, or for a career in Homeland Security, this collection rises to the challenge. Users will have access to 150 journals.

Culinary Arts Collection: The Culinary Arts Collection includes 150 of the major cooking and nutrition magazines from 1980 to present. Coverage includes thousands of searchable recipes, restaurant reviews, and industry information.

Health and Wellness Resource Center and Alternative Health Module: This resource provides a one stop, full-service resource for alternative and complimentary therapies. It provides a rich collection of books, journals, magazines and pamphlets for consumers and health care professionals.

Illinois Catalog: An online catalog containing millions of bibliographic records cataloged by Illinois OCLC member libraries. Materials cataloged include: books, manuscripts, websites and internet resources, maps, computer programs, musical scores, films and slides, newspapers, journals and magazines, sound recordings, articles, chapters, papers, and videotapes held by Illinois libraries.

Kids Search - Middle & Elementary School makes it easier for students to look for their subjects of interest by automatically searching across all applicable databases simultaneously. Important features and functionality of Kids Search include a completely new, visually appealing look and feel; the ability to search by topic, subtopic, or keywords; simultaneous searching across all subscribed databases; the ability to sort results by relevance, as well as by date; the option of filtering search results by source type; and the ability to add search results, images, or persistent links to searches to the Folder.

Literary Reference Center is a comprehensive database that provides a broad spectrum of information on thousands of authors and their works across literary disciplines and timeframes. MasterFILE Premier provides full text for over 1,730 of periodicals. Coverage includes nearly all subjects including general reference, business, health, and much more. This database features: 5,000 full text Magill Book Reviews, nearly 500 full text reference books including the World Almanac & Book of Facts; full text from 84,774 biographies, 100,554 full text primary source documents, American Heritage Dictionary, 4th Edition and an Image Collection of 235,186 photos, maps and flags.

Middle Search Plus contains full text for more than 150 popular, middle school magazines. In addition to the full text, this database offers indexing and abstracts for nearly 200 magazines. All full text articles are assigned a reading level indicator (Lexiles). Full text is also available for thousands of biographies, historical essays and student pamphlets. Points of View Reference Center is a full-text database designed to provide students with a series of essays that present multiple sides of a current issue. Project Gutenberg is the place where you can download over 30,000 free ebooks to read on your PC, iPhone, Kindle, Sony Reader or other portable device. The books are free in the United States because their copyright has expired

Health:

MEDLINE: A database (with some full-text) covering all areas of medicine, including dentistry and nursing. MEDLINE corresponds to the print indexes Index Medicus, Index to Dental Literature, and International Nursing Index. It includes thousands of records with substantial abstracts. Subjects include: clinical medicine, nutrition, dentistry, pathology, education, psychiatry, experimental medicine, toxicology, health services administration, veterinary medicine, and nursing.

Newspapers:

Illinois Newpapers: Includes the Chicago Tribune (1985-Current), Chicago Sun-Times (1986-Current), Arlington Heights Post, Belleville News-Democrat, Pantagraph (Bloomington), Peoria Journal Star, Rockford Register Star, and the State Journal-Register (Springfield).  Also includes Americas News Magazines featuring full-text articles from various familiar magazines, such as Newsweek, Time, and U.S. News & World Report.

Newspaper Source™ Plus includes 1,520 full-text newspapers, providing more than 28 million full-text articles. The database contains comprehensive full text for major newspapers such as New York Times (from January 1985 to present), Boston Globe, Christian Science Monitor, Daily Mail (UK), Irish Times (Ireland), San Francisco Chronicle, The Sydney Morning Herald (Australia), The Times (UK), Toronto Star, USA Today, The Washington Post, The Washington Times (DC), and others.

Spanish/Español:

ClasePeriodica: CLASE indexes documents published in Latin American journals specializing in the social sciences and humanities, while PERIODICA covers journals specializing in science and technology. This database contains information from articles, essays, book reviews, monographs, conference proceedings, technical reports, interviews, and brief notes published in journals edited in 24 different countries of Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as from publications focusing on Pan-American issues.

Informe: Created exclusively for Spanish-speaking users, this full-text electronic reference tool is the first system to provide indexing, images and full text of popular Hispanic magazines -- not just translations. Also included is a thesaurus and interface that are uniquely designed for Spanish-speaking users. ¡Informe! thinks through every query in Spanish. ERIC: A collection of journal articles and reports in education, with some full-text. It contains annotated references to non-journal material issued in the monthly Resources in Education (RIE) and the journal articles issued in the monthly Current Index to Journals in Education (CIJE).

GPO: U.S. federal government publications, including Congressional reports, hearings, debates, and records; judiciary materials; and documents issued by executive departments (Defense, State, Labor, Office of the President, etc.). Includes a bibliographic citation in each record.

Hobbies & Crafts Reference Center provides comprehensive full text content for many of the most popular hobbies, crafts and recreation activities today. Including full text for more than 760 magazines and books, as well as access to more than 720 videos and 140 hobby reports, this database offers detailed "how-to" instructions and creative ideas to meet the interests of virtually every hobby enthusiast.

Home Improvement Reference Center: This is the online tool for home improvement assistance, including: maintenance, remodeling, electrical work, plumbing, wood projects, outdoor improvements, decorating home & garden, etc.

PapersFirst: An OCLC index of papers presented at conferences worldwide. Covers every published congress, symposium, conference, exposition, workshop, and meeting received by the British Library Document Supply Centre.

Proceedings: An OCLC index of worldwide conference proceedings. Covers every published congress, symposium, conference, exposition, workshop, and meeting received by the British Library Document Supply Centre.

Small Engine Repair Reference Center: This is the definitive online tool for small engine repair assistance, including: ATVs, commercial mowers, farm tractors, generators, motorcycles, marine (boats), outdoor power equipment, PWC (personal watercraft/jet ski), snowblowers, snowmobiles, tillers and other small engines. This comprehensive resource contains 410 reference books in full text with original photos and illustrations that guide the user through every job.

WorldCatDissertations: A database of all dissertations and theses available in WorldCat.

Test Preparation:

Learning Express Library: This is a collection of practice tests and study modules for a such tests as the SAT, ACT, GED, GRE, MCAT, TOEFL, and many others. Check the site for more information. To access the the service you need a Broadview Library card. Click the tab marked "New User". Your library card number beginning "2 1314..." acts as your "username". You then create your own password. Once you've done this you can easily log in and out of this service whenever you like.

 

Homework Help:

Live Homework Help connects students in grades K-12 with online tutors for live, one-to-one help in math, science, English, and social studies. Tutors are available from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m., seven days a week.  Your Broadview library card is needed to connect to this service.
