The Library Board of Trustees of the Broadview Public Library District seeks to fill a vacant board seat. District libraries are self-governed by a seven member elected Board of Trustees, however this vacancy will be filled by appointment. A regular term is six years, and the terms are staggered. This vacancy will serve through May 2019. The trustees meet on the 4th Thursday of odd-numbered months at 7:00 pm, unless otherwise noted or special meetings are called.
Trustees voluntarily serve in this position with no compensation, though may be reimbursed for certain expenses while fulfilling duties. Trustees are expected to avoid conflicts of interest between private pursuits and official responsibilities. Trustees must file annually a Statement of Economic Interest with the Cook County Ethics Office.
Trustee duties include, but are not limited to, being an advocate for the Library to the community; meeting attendance and participation; serving on subcommittees, as applicable; and providing financial and strategic direction in conjunction with the Executive Director. The Illinois State Library provides the Trustee Facts File, which outlines common and expected trustee responsibilities.
